Using fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -O3 -i686.
Followed the documentation for gentoo 1.2 from stage1 and everything went very smoothly (although on my PIII 500 it did take a while /chuckle).
I even emerge'd ccache before doing the compiles and it did seem to speed things up.
nVidia drivers worked fine, KDE 3.x worked fine, sound works great under KDE with my SB Live.
When I do an emerge -pu world it says I should upgrade GCC to r7, Python and two other packages. Any reason at this point to upgrade, i.e. any gotchas with the 'latest and greatest?'
Thanks again to Gentoo and these forums, my distro rocks right now. _________________ --
