So i've installed the 2.6.0-test1 kernel and added in the appropriate options for the kernel framebuffer than i did in 2.4 for 2.6, and made sure they are all correct. But when i do vga=### (such as 791, 795, and a plethora of the 0x###) in the grub kernel line it does not work. I get a bunch of horizontal fuzzyness, sometimes out of sync errors. Nothing will give me a 1024x768 or 1280x1024 console at all.

Has anyone successfully gotten this working?

Hardware: P4-2.8/512, NVidia geforce4 ti4200 128mb agp.

its working for me.
Code:
sa@v sa $ uname -a
Linux v 2.6.0-test1 #6 Sat Jul 19 15:52:30 MDT 2003 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) III Mobile CPU      1200MHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
sa@v sa $ cat /proc/cmdline
root=/dev/hda3 vga=0x305

what I enabled in the kernel:
Code:
Graphics support  --->
[*] Support for frame buffer devices
<M>   VGA 16-color graphics support
[*]   VESA VGA graphics support
    Console display driver support  --->
        [*] VGA text console
        [*]   Video mode selection support
        <*> Framebuffer Console support

hth,
sa

victorious! it seems you have to M the option instead of being able to compile both vesa and vga16 in the kernel. good call!

all my thanks,

I read on the linux kernel mailing list, that some people lost their tux boot logo, you might want to search that list, because they probably have it fixed now. But here Tux never dissapeared :-)
