squid blocking CUPS admin page

hey guys,
I'm having trouble with my squid server 'blocking' access to the admin pages on one of my cups servers. Squid sits off to the side as a non-transparent proxy (congfigured via the firefox) and is configured to allow port 631 as a 'safe_port' and 'SSL_port' in squid.conf (full):

Now I can visit the cups page via http://servername:631 but when I click on the admin link and go to http://servername:631/admin normally, without squid running, I will have to wait about three seconds and then a popup authentication box will appear asking for the password at https://servername:631/admin. With squid running all I get is 403 forbidden errors with no authentication box. Even if I go to https://servername:631/admin directly it still gives me the same message.

Any ideas?

if you dont need to go thru squid to the printer admin page try putting the server's ip (or a range) in the "no proxy for" list in firefox
