|
|
Does anyone know if it is possible to run Gentoo Linux on a mobile phone. The phone that I have in mind is the SonyEricsson X1 type. But from SonyEricsson it runs Windows mobile and I am no fan of the mess that windows really is. So I want to replace it with Gentoo Linux when I buy the phone sometimes next year possible. |

I dont think gentoo is a good choice for a mobile device.
The compiling of programs would be a pain in the a** and gentoo is not ment for something like that, it is to big imho.
Check out the familiar project. _________________ http://mardicas.dyndns.org |

first check if the linux kernel was ported to your mobile phone...then if yes you could install linux but...
normaly someone would think that given that there are cross-toolchain,uclibc profiles etc...it woud be doable to install gentoo on a mobile phone but it's not the case because the cross-toolchains in gentoo don't handle the cross-compilation well:
for instance i wanted to cross-compile weechat for arm but as the compilation depends on running tests it failled...
openembedded, and scratchbox can handle this...prefer open embeded in order to build a full distro... |
