|
|
After I emerge portage, I get the following message:
I would like to know how do I update configuration file.
Code: |
* Make sure you run 'hash -r' in your active shells.
* Regenerating GNU info directory index...
* Processed 140 info files.
* IMPORTANT: 6 config files in '/etc' need updating.
* See the CONFIGURATION FILES section of the emerge
* man page to learn how to update config files.
|
Please help!
Use the following command is it?

You can use 'etc-update' although personally I prefer using 'dispatch-conf' as it has greater scope for backing up the config files that you are replacing. You can configure 'dispatch-conf' to automatically update files that you haven't touched, and you only get asked about updating config files that you have modified. See the configuration file in /etc/dispatch-conf.conf and 'man dispatch-conf' for more details. _________________ "Science is what we understand well enough to explain to a computer. I use dispatch-conf for years instead of etc-update.
Also, dispatch-conf can do the job by himself, like when you have a diff between 2 files and it's only some spaces or linebreak that differ from the 2 files, dispatch-conf doesn't bother you with that. |

And then there are the extra comfortable tools cfg-update and etc-proposals. You gotta emerge them, but they make much easier ... |

You work it manually, it has somewhat better performance, but it's really for the fun of it. |
