but it's not free. you can download an evaluation version. the only diff between it and the pay version is that it bugs you to buy it.
eh hehehe....
im downloading it at the moment. someone else try it out and see how it works for ya. according to the site, it uses WINE to make this possible. you dont need wine installed tho.
ill post my "evaluation" when im done tinkering.

from what i can tell so far... it downloads the windows executable installation file for whichever plugin you select (after the initial installation) and runs them via some buit-in wine code.
very interesting... am downloading and installing the quicktime plugin atm... _________________ I used gentoo BEFORE it was cool. |

wow, i must say... im impressed. i played quicktime movies fairly easily. upon going into the crossover install dir there are other apps there too, but nothing to scream about. mostly useless windows apps.
you can run the quicktime player separately as well as a browser plugin. i currently have it working under opera!! i wonder if it's possible to do this without the use of the crossover plugin and just use wine... but i doubt it. im seriously considering paying the 25 bucks for this.

Well, the WINE project in general let me replace my windows box entirely...
and this is just even more icing on the cake.
And it works magnificently.

i installed quicktime using the latest wine build to some success. videos play but the prog messes up you screen output until you close the app. it's alright -- could be better, of coarse. _________________ [resident anime junkie] -- not just a linux freak. |

Why don't you use xine or mplayer? The newest versions of them support realaudio/video and quicktime svq1. svq3 is beeing worked on.
(and its native!) |

i've got xine installed -- it's just that, yeah, i couldn't get qt output to work. that was back around E3, though.
wait, that was mplayer -- sorry. i'll give xine a go. do you need to get openquicktime or quicktime4linux package for qt playback? _________________ [resident anime junkie] -- not just a linux freak. |

no, as far as I know you don't neen to get openquicktime or quicktime for linux. but you have to look at the exact encoding etc the movie you want to play uses. svq3 and qdm audio aren't yet supported and for example all trailers at www.apple.com/quicktime/trailers use them. Then you should make sure you use the latest versions. for xine 0.9.12 is the newest and there exist an ebuild "emerge xine-ui" for mplayer you should download the mplayer-current.tar.bz2 from their site because it'only included with this cvs snapshot.
hope you'll
succeed couln't yet try myself, at the moment compiling kde

yeah, the file could have been a non-supported format. i'll have to double check.
anyways, thanks for the info. _________________ [resident anime junkie] -- not just a linux freak. |

perhaps, but this version of wine they use is custom made apparently, and quicktime works flawlessly if not a bit on the slow side.
as for real player... p'ah! why use mplayer or xine when you can use the native linux version of real player?

i guess it's nice just to have them all integrated. i, for one, still have realplayer installed just for the hell of it.
and, yep, the qt file i was trying to play was sv3. i got audio but no video. _________________ [resident anime junkie] -- not just a linux freak. |

I actualy own crossover, just so I can stream windows media stuff (my isp has a broadband portal with movies and stuff, very nice ).
I only use it for windows media stuff though, I guess I could use plugger too, but crossover does work better atm. |

Better a late answer than none at all.
I prefer using plugger a wonderful netscape/mozilla plugin. it is configured to show lots of fileformats using the ressources you have installed on your system.
The ebuild of plugger really works fine!

mm to be perfectly honest I have only used it as an icq client , but it seems fully fuctional , the reason I like it is it refreshes instantainously when entering a line of text whereas using a dialup at home I found there was a huge lag.....with ICQ
Cheers

Could someone please explain what trilian is? If it's an icq client, it woulde be a bit off topic.

It's a universal instant messenger, which is also supported by crossover.

I purchased the CrossOver plugin back when it cost $19.95 and I have been very pleased with it. I think it is well worth the money if you are are regular Linux user. Triliian works good, the Power Point viewer looks great with the TrueType fonts that come with it installed, and the Shockwave plugin works OK most of the time. |
