tv out on my laptop compaq armada e500

hey, i can enable tv out on my laptop with the function key but the it only works in console mode, but not under x the picture is all scrambled. i assume its a problem of the resolution or depth, i have it currently set to 1024x768 at 24 bit. what do i add to xf86config so i can get it to work?

i cant even activate the tv out in x with the function keys, only in console mode and then go into gdm.

its an ati rage mobility with 8mb of vram

I have a similar card if not the same, mine is a ATI Technologies Inc Rage Mobility P/M AGP 2x (rev 64) as listed in lspci. My hotkeys dont work at all to my knowledge, but i have had perfect success with the commandline utility atitvout available at:
