Yeah, it works if applied after all patches from portage.

2.6.25-zen2 tagged. updated to 2.6.25.4 and removed concurrent pagecache, as it was not behaving.

1. When you disable it, it didn't completely get removed, some of the code was still getting there, and causing problems for some people.
2. It was the most likely reason for the hardlocks.

One more question on NVIDIA video: is there any workaroung for 2.6.26-rc2 and GeForce2 MX cards?
On 2.6.24, I used versions before 97.0.0. Now none of them work.

I saw patches for 169 version, maybe someone already patches those <97?

P.S. We have separate ebuild repository, so small x11-drivers/... dir wouldn't hurt, would it?
Thanks for effort

hi guys,

just wanted to drop a note to let you know that I'll be absent from these forums for some time (approx. until july) :idea:

so if you ask me a question (concerning zen-sources, reiser4, whatever) you'll know that it won't be answered for some time :wink:

have fun with zen-sources & gentoo, and a nice weekend

thanks dodo, rmh3093, waninkoko, ...

bye for now

I'll try to fix swap-prefetch in .26. It doesn't work fine yet.

Another happy costumer... works great.

Code:
nicolasc@Ifirn ~ $ uname -a
Linux Ifirn 2.6.25-zen2-zen2 #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun May 18 18:54:13 CEST 2008 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7500 @ 2.20GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

BTW, what is going on with this double zen at the end? I experienced the same with some .26_rc's...

hmmm, probably you're setting CONFIG_LOCALVERSION in the kernel. Don't. Append everything you want in the name string to localversion-zen file.

we should just stop using the localversion-zen file since it seems to cause problems

Code:
nicolasc@Ifirn ~ $ grep LOCAL /usr/src/linux/.config
CONFIG_FAST_CMPXCHG_LOCAL=y
CONFIG_LOCALVERSION=""
# CONFIG_LOCALVERSION_AUTO is not set
CONFIG_X86_LOCAL_APIC=y
Not really.
What is this localversion-zen? and where do i find it...

EDIT: found it...
and this could be the problem, as in the Makefile EXTRAVERSION is already set to -zen2. trying a removal...

EDIT2: removal/emtpying of localversion-zen helped - mark as WORKSFORME ;)

cheers
V.

2.6.25-zen2 suffers hardlocks unlike zen 2.6.26. maybe
without swap prefetch this could improve. but i'll just
stick to the zen devel for now.

It is possible to install zen-sources on x86? It tells me:
arch/x86/kernel/asm-offsets.c:1: error: code model 'kernel' not supported in the 32 bit mode
arch/x86/kernel/asm-offsets.c:1: sorry, unimplemented: 64-bit mode not compiled in

just updated zen-overlay and re-emerged zen-sources. Got:

copy it from where to where?

Edit: looking at gitweb, it seems there is a problem with some commits. A rc4 ebuild was committed, then deleted...

Edit2: it seems to be being worked on. Patience, apparently :)

Edit3: New stuff committed, emerge works. Compiling now...

Edit4: Compiled! Rebooting into new kernel...

Edit5: 2.6.26-rc4-zen1.1 boots fine. tp_smapi loads unlike with rc3, hdaps still doesn't. Uvesafb works again. Nice, for the most part :)

Just tested new Nvidia 93.43.05 patch for >2.6.25 (using 2.6.26-rc2-zen1)

https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=223907

Seems like everything works. Maybe some of zen maintainer would commit it to zen git? Gentoo "officials" do not want to do that.

with 2.6.26-rc4-zen1.2, the iwl4965 drivers crash after connecting to AP and actually doing something with the connection (ping stuff - kernel panic)

posting this with 2.6.26-rc1-zen, which worked. The only thing I noticed was the new "auto-calibration" option or something, but I still get panics if disable it again...

I added a screenshot I did with my camera (tail -f /var/log/dmesg.... not sure if that was necessary ;))
Im not sure if there's a kernel panic logger? I mean the FS wouldn't unmount and stuff... hmm , dunno
