Hi, I am the Project Leader of Dux Linux (http://dux.sunsite.dk)
We are trying to get a PHP Frontend designed as a Web Based Configuration program for our distro. This would be so that the user could simply log onto their computer, type into the shell 'portage-conf' and it would load up the users prefered web browser with all kinds of options. One of these options would be to install/uninstall packages. With this php frontend though, the user does not have to do emerge xfree, they would simply go to the Xfree86 page in the config and it would download the proper files and install them for the user.
The reason I am writing you guys, is because I am curious to know if you think this is possible and to see if any of you would be interested in helping?
Also, another thing, and this just an idea, would it be possible to create the portage ebuild list into a MySQL database? If so, wouldn't that be faster to pull down information that downloading tarballs (emerge sync)? |
