This morning I updated nvidia driver to
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers
Latest version available: 169.09-r1
Latest version installed: 169.09-r1

and played Savage as normal, but when I started ET/TCE the monitor says to me "Frecuencia demasiado alta" (Frequency too high) in 800x600 video mode.
I can see the image alright in TCE but the banner does not let me play, I know it must be something with nvidia and the monitor, but yesterday was perfect, then I think that something has changed with the nvidia-drivers.
I managed to solve the problem changing game resolution to 1024x768, but if I try to play 800x600 the banner appears.

Any idea how to fix 800x600 mode an nvidia?

Launch nvidia-settings.
Under "X Screen Display Configuration" you can force the refresh rate of your monitor.

thanks for help, but that is not a solution ... I tried to created a new xorgdconf as said in https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-671726-highlight-nvidia+800x600.html
I discovered that FOF in 800x600 resolution has same problem, I had to configure it to 1024x768.
I must be something with new nvidia drivers, and the problem now with TCE is that when I finish one map and starts other one, always crashes and when I start again TCE is in 800x600 mode ... then I must change again to 1024x768 and so on...

TCE did not crash before last update but now always when tries to start a new map..

There are reports on the nvidia forum that show it is a problem for other users as well: Resolution problems when default is not used (for example in some fullscreen games)
In that nvnews thread, they found that the problem occurs because at low resolutions like 800x600, the 169.09 and 169.12 drivers default to "DoubleScan" i.e. doubling the refresh rate of the monitor.
Assuming you're having the same problem, this is what I can think of:

Possible Fix
Add the "DoubleScanPriority" string to the "ModeValidation" Option, so that doublescan modes are sorted after non-doublescan modes.
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
    Section "Device"
        ...
        Driver         "nvidia"
        ...
        Option         "ModeValidation"  "DoubleScanPriority"
    EndSection

Of course you would have to make sure your xorg.conf has an 800x600 mode for your screen -
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
    Section "Screen"
        ...
        SubSection     "Display"
            Viewport    0 0
            Depth       8
            Modes      "800x600" ...
        EndSubSection
    EndSection

For more information, checkout bzless /usr/share/doc/nvidia-drivers-169.12/README.bz2

Workaround
Perhaps the "DoubleScanPriority" applies not to Modes, but ModeLines...
Then the solution might be a little risky, because from what I've heard there are no reliable methods for defining ModeLines

Sten explains, the fix in more detail in the gentoo-wiki
    http://gentoo-wiki.com/Talk:HOWTO_nVidia_GL_Desktop_Effects#Problems_with_nVidia_GeForce_Go_and_640x480
Note that those numbers are different for each monitor, so you'll have to find them out and then add the option to your xorg.conf

If the fix above doesn't work for you, and you decide to try this, be sure to try it once with AND without using Option "ModeValidation" "DoubleScanPriority", because the option acts as a toggle (as the nvidia-drivers README I listed above says).

You can launch some games via command-line with a default resolution option.
I'm not sure if TCE supports that, but you could always try that too.
I did that once with Nexuiz when I set the resolution too high for my integrated graphics to handle :P

this solved the problem, I can play now 800x600:

Option "ModeValidation" "DoubleScanPriority"

I must test now the tce crash when changing map, maybe is same problem or other..
