Hi there.
I have been getting the following error whenever I try to run compiz fuzion:
Code: | X Error of failed request: GLXBadContext
Major opcode of failed request: 161 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request: 16
Current serial number in output stream: 16
Using GTK decorator
compiz (core) - Fatal: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0 |
I have already googled this problem but none of the solutions work very well

Also whenever I leave the X, the console gets all funky (screen is filled with garbage). I will start a new thead about this problem (it wasn't like that befour until I did a few changes in the xorg.conf)

I see you're using ATI graphics.
There was a similar error in this post:
The desktop-effects overlay _________________ Gentoo is the stick-shift of Linux.
You work it manually, it has somewhat better performance, but it's really for the fun of it. |

Now when I type: compiz-start all the bars on the windows dissapear and when I tried to run an application, the whole screen went white (tested it again, must have been a one case only. First time the screen went white in many runs).
What am I doing wrong.
P.S.
I am using Ati Radeon Xpress 1100.
This is a laptop, Acer 5103WLMi.
Here is /var/log/Xorg.0.log file (I snipped a few information (you can see some comments inside some asterisks), just to make it your worthwhile ):

Good! The problem of compiz (core) crashing is fixed.
Now you have 2 more to deal with.

What worries me the most is what I colored red | That warning is harmless.
See X.org bug 6689. If I were you though I'd just ignore it.
Note that the patch in the bug report simply hides the errors.
But please do file a bug with bugs.gentoo.org telling them to apply the suggested patch (from the X.org bug report) on media-libs/mesa
Be sure to instruct the dev that he/she should not just copy and paste the patch, the "==" has to be changed to "!=" as comment 13 in the bug 6689 says.
So actually only 1 problem left
BlackMan890 wrote: | Now when I type: compiz-start all the bars on the windows disappear | That issue has been often discussed on the Gentoo forums.
compiz requires you to enable its window decorator (i.e. it isn't turned on by default o_O)
Anyway, for a start see [SOLVED] No window borders w/Compiz ~_~
BlackMan890 wrote: | and when I tried to run an application, the whole screen went white | According to this thread, a similar / identical ATI bug was solved by changing some xorg.conf options: [SOLVED] Compiz-Fusion and White screen
So I assume you were playing around with your config, and that's how it got taken care of. _________________ Gentoo is the stick-shift of Linux.
You work it manually, it has somewhat better performance, but it's really for the fun of it. |

And then all window bars dissapear | Now that I think about it, since compiz tries to invoke the GTK decorator, it must detect something about it.
Maybe GTK isn't completely installed.
Make sure you have "gnome" and "svg" USE flags enabled for x11-wm/compiz in your /etc/portage/package.use
See http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_XGL/Troubleshooting#No_Window_Decorations
Then, of course, simply emerge -DNav compiz and revdep-rebuild _________________ Gentoo is the stick-shift of Linux.
