NiL - NiL isnt Liero: NiL is a multiplayer worm game a little like quake, except it's 2d and a little like worms except it's realtime.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/nil/
I haven't been able to get it working, the whole thing is a little out of date. Both binaries and source are avaible.

Did you get this working on Gentoo? And if so, where did you download it? The four or so mirrors I see listed are down. Its a ~62meg download, so I'd get to this ebuild quicker if I knew someone had it working somewhat on Gentoo. |

No go for me either, source or binary. Maybe you can bug the developer to update it from libsdl 1.0 to 1.2, which isn't in portage. |

Try: http://www.linux-games.com/timewarp/
There are some instructions and a makefile there. I have not tried getting this working in Gentoo yet; however, I did get it working in Redhat once, and others have gotten it to work on various flavors of Linux. See the link above. I would work on a e-build for this if I knew how, but I am a newbie when it comes to ebuilds!
Good Luck! |

Forgot to mention that I just downloaded it from the fileplanet mirror. Had no problems at all downloading.. The only downside was I had to do their free registration junk first. |

Bummer. Can't download that from File Planet from an ebuild. I guess it'd have to be mirrored in Gentoo's distfiles mirrors. I'll try File Planet and go from there. |

a Freeciv CVS ebuild would be nice, they have a new GTK2 client in there, music support and SDL graphics. |

XArchon - awesome clone of original C64 chess/action game is missing an ebuild.
Hopefully someone can provide a 0.60 (devel) version ebuild of this one!
Thanks |

Stuff I'm working on:
Freeciv-cvs, kinda working some days, mostly not though. I'll wait till I get a decent snapshot before posting the ebuild.
Xarchon - Done. I'll post after some more testing.
Star Control - Haven't tried yet.
Here's a nifty one. Gens, the Sega Genesis emulator. It works great:

Hey,
I've contacted the author of Super Empty Ball about the ebuild and he said he's already fixed the color depth issue, and the paths are currently on his todo list. He suggested, and I'd have to agree, to wait until his next release (where he also added "a number of graphical features, reorganized the game assets, added joystick support, and cut the package size in half") when many of these issues will be cleared up before trying an ebuild.
So, I guess this ebuild's on hold for now. |

Pythonhead: just wanted to let you know that Andromeda9's server is apparently back up... i read it in their site's forum in the 'general' section...
http://www.andromeda9.com/forum.php?category=General&page=post&id=3612
if that's not true, there are still some other servers: apparently one is running on a T3, so i don't think we would have to worry about lagging _________________ --uriahheep-- |

Heh. I just got an email a day or two ago saying its been put into CVS. I don't know why, since it seemed clear we weren't done with it. Oh well. |

I just tried, it tries to connect but says the server is down. I haven't figured a way to connect to any other server. If anyone else wants to try, there is a binary tarball on their website that works fine after unpacking it. Let me know if you can connect and I'll give the ebuild another shot. |

works perfectly here and ive talked to users who've used is just fine :p
if you have a bug and dont tell us, we cant fix it because we dont know about it ... thus it makes complaining a useless point
as for lgl, i looked into that ... problems are this:
(1) uses kylix [ugh]
(2) we have 1 version of kylix in portage and it only provides 2 library files
(3) since we have no base of kylix to work with, that removes possibility of building lgl from src ...
(4) and the binary doesnt work because of the reasons other users have mentioned before
if anyone feels like taking a crack at a kylix-from-src, i'll take a look at it and clean it up/add it to portage |

Nah, I wasn't really complaining, if it bothered me so much I would have attempted to fix it or look into it myself. The whole fun of open source systems / software is.. what? end user can fix something. Hurray. No in all seriousness i think it is a touch flaky but I also think the loki installer for UT is just as easy as emerge so no complaints here. _________________ waka waka

Pythonhead: what dependencies did you compile for A9? and were they all in the portage tree? cuz i'm looking for Amp11Lib and it doesn't seem to be in the portage tree... i think all of the other ones are there though.

Hmm. Are we compiling different versions? I used this one:
mirror://sourceforge/andromeda9/Andromeda9-Redwing.tar.gz
There is a reference in core.c to amplib11 but its commented out and looks like its for Windows.
The only dependencies I found were Python 2.2, Python Imaging Library, PyOpenGL, Numerical Python, SDL |

Hi guys, I'm glad the thread is thriving. I'm currently at Dance Camp for 3 more days (for a total of 2 weeks of Lindy Hop).
I'll update the top post then with all the ebuilds that has been created and the ones still missing.
Great work everyone.
I'll also contribute some graphics I found to the XArchon project when I get home, they look quite alot better than the ones they used now. |
