My reiser4 locked up today, anyone else experience anything similar?

the filesystem was created with something along the lines of: mkfs.reiser4 create=ccreg40,compress=lzo1,compressMode=force,cluster=8K,formatting=smart

and mounted with options: noatime,nodiratime,flush.scan_maxnodes=12000

dmesg snippet:

don't use compressMode=force it'll often makes things worse if you're having much already compressed data

besides that please post it on the reiserfs general mailing list:

http://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.file-systems.reiserfs.general

or send it directly to Edward Shishkin

my hitchhiker's just started failing to compile.

Code:
WARNING: /lib/modules/2.6.29-hh1/misc/svgalib_helper.ko needs unknown symbol pre
empt_schedule

googling svgalib_helper.ko only comes up with stuff from years back.

any idea what this is about?

thanks

try saving your kernel config then
Code:
make clean mrproper

after that copy the config back and re-compile

see if that helps

good luck !

Latest release is sys-kernel/hitchhiker-sources-2.6.29-r2, which includes:

linux 2.6.29.2
gentoo-patches 2.6.29-4
reiser4
aufs2
tuxonice 3.0.1
march=native option

For use with the Aufs2 patch in this kernel, there is a live ebuild for aufs2-util in berkano overlay as well.

Enjoy! 8)

I was unable to fetch the sources for -r2

'http://dl.liveforge.org/hitchhiker-sources/2.6.29/hh-patches-2.6.29-r2.tar.bz2' doesn't seem to exist

2.6.30-r2 brings us up to date with the latest security patches in vanilla 2.6.30.2 and latest gentoo-sources. The patch tarball is also actually uploaded this time!

i think svgalib has been quite obsolete for a while now. i'd google for a 2.6.30 patch (if such exists). i wonder what will happen once kernel mode-setting goes official for most supported gfx cards.

edit: did you try this? : https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-767870.html

that aside, i must say this is a quite minimal yet fun patchset. i use it mostly because of aufs2 - i've started having difficulties coping with aufs1, and aufs2 build instructions are pretty complicated ;-).

Now that we finally have an official Reiser4 patch for 2.6.32, I have released a new version of hitchhiker-sources: 2.6.32-r1. It includes:

- linux-2.6.32.8
- reiser4-for-2.6.32
- aufs2-2.6.32
- tuxonice-3.0.99.48-for-2.6.32
- march-native.patch
- patches from gentoo-sources-2.6.32-r5

What does the march-native patch come from? I've always just hacked the Makefile to set CFLAGS for the kernel.

To be honest, I don't remember exactly. Some user wanted it and pointed me to it.

Strangely, when I applied just that march=native patch and compiled (on amd64) it didn't actually use the march=native flags. I'm giong to have to much around and see why not.

EDIT: Ah, the Makefile itself is hardcoded for K8 processors and ignores values set in Makefile_32.cpu Nice.

As I'm starting a new career in a new country, I won't have time to work on Gentoo anymore. I'm retiring as developer and also put hitchhiker-sources in the freezer. I may be back some day, you never know. But for now:

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Damn, and I just installed the latest hh kernel yesterday. Oh well, the best laid plans of mice.

Thanks for the kernel and the occasions you've helped me out on the forum.

All the best with the new lif.

i'm really enjoying this kernel; is someone else going to pick up development or is -32-r1 probably the last release?
