It all started when my flash inside firefox would play video but not sound...
and I started on the quest for the holy grail of making the sound play....
and now my system has no sound at all! ^.^
I was lead to use ALSA... which has broken my system =/
I tried to use the kernel, didn't work, KDE said that there was no such device as /dev/dsp, mixer showed good, but no music would play.
alsasound service would start under the kernel ALSA but no sound in any part of the system (well except for clicks when i restarted alsasound)
So then I went for the alsa-drivers, and now alsasound will not even initalize, it says failed to load drivers.
It worked when i was using arts. How do I get it back to that point, or fix my delema?
KDE Control Center > Sound > Hardware says that /dev/dsp cannot be found, no such device

That is the guide I followed step by step. I even went back over it two more times for good measure...
Still won't work. KDE doesn't notice the ALSA sound, it swears that /dev/dsp is an invalid device.
it works, because when i restart alsasound it clicks and stuff, but nothing can route to it.
*shrugs*
any ideas?
If you need/want any info about my system jsut lemme know what you need ill gladly post. |

SOLVED =)
I uninstalled everything that had been installed for alsa.
made sure arts was disabled, arts was taking over the sound server, not letting ALSA through.
reconfigured kernel for alsa
installed alsa-utils
and it worked >.<
