I have sat on this frustration for a long time.
I have 6 gentoo machines. All that have transfered to audacity don't play streams worth a darn and the one with XMMS works great.
I have stopped updateing 1/2 of my machines because of stuff someone else choose for me not to have in portage. This seems against the Gentoo philosophy of choice.
Maybe some things don't have lots and lots of updates because the do what they need to well and don't need more. This means they don't suck up a lot of sync bandwidth. I am afraid we went too far with some of the housecleaning. (at worst split it into two repositories a main and an old. I will run emerge on the main once a week and the archive once a month.
Hey, thats an idea! _________________ ghidra: 2.6.18-gentoo-r3 x86_64 AMD64 with xfce4 across 2 monitors; reiserfs on LVM2

Check this:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-509819-highlight-xmms+happened.html
This was more than one year ago. I thought that the discussion was finally over
Also, check my website (look signature) for xmms ebuilds (also plugins, some deps that are not in portage and themes). Note as well that they might or might not work. The fact that these is unmaintained stuff is the main reason for the removal. Not only in which regards xmms itself, but also in which regards gtk1 and some similar stuff that is unmaintained upstream. I am not going to repeat that old stuff here again: check that link above and you will find plenty of boring stuff to read about the issue. |

I thought audacity was just a continuation of xmms but xmms works so much better for me. (especially on my 900mhz thinkpad dedicated to play dvd's and be a full time bedside net radio station.)
It seems like there are a lot of people who thought the same way. _________________ ghidra: 2.6.18-gentoo-r3 x86_64 AMD64 with xfce4 across 2 monitors; reiserfs on LVM2
