Okay, Maybe I need a new portage, so I checked for that one: Code: |
PHIEPS root # emerge -pu portage
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

That isn't funny anymore, a last check (removed kportage and portagemaster from the output) Code: | PHIEPS root # emerge -s portage
Searching... /!!! eclass 'http://www.gentoo.org' in 'http://www.gentoo.org' does not exist:

Description: Portage ports system

Okay, I'm lost. Portage is masked, that's something I don't know to handle. Last complete update of my system was a few days ago. I use gentoo for 16 months now and know that I did nothing risky or off the normal path. But I'm absolutely lost now, can anyone point me a way out of here _________________ Here I am the victim of my own choices and I'm just starting! |

just do an emerge portage will fix it. Dont do any -s -p or nothing just portage. You will get a bunch of errors at the end about bad dependancies in the cache file but dont worry it will be fixed in the end
Atleast it did in my case. |

Very funny ... as shown above: Code: | PHIEPS root # emerge portage
Calculating dependencies !!! eclass 'http://www.gentoo.org' in 'http://www.gentoo.org' does not exist:
!!! all ebuilds that could satisfy "portage" have been masked.
!!! Error calculating dependencies. Please correct.

I am having the same problem as well.
removing the following from my /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask doesn't help either...
# <carpaski@gentoo.org> (29 Jun 2003)
# Masking 2.0.48-r2 for testing some cleanups and fixes
>=sys-apps/portage-2.0.48-r2
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. _________________ NitroMullet

I upgraded portage to 2.0.48-r1 and I still have hundreds of these messages scrolling across my terminal. Basically I can't do an rsync right now, and because the cache doesn't finish building properly, I can't do any emerges.
Is anyone looking at this? |

It solves the problem only temporarily. After the next emerge sync it comes back again |

Well, this looks very ugly
The missing eclass errors are still there and portage suggests that it should downgrade itself _________________ Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better.

Sigh. Bitten as well. My stable machine is now completely horked. If I emerge portage-2.0.48-r2, still the same issues. I've tried multiple mirrors to sync from.
Methinks somebody did a late night push of something...bad. I'm assuming even if we're completely hosed at this point that we could download a working portage cache from somebody with a valid sync after the error is corrected. For now, portage = gone.

Just seems to me like all the rsync mirrors are carrying messed-up portage trees (perhaps because of oregonstate.edu being b0rk3d?). I doubt portage itself is the problem. |

I can narrow the time of the breaking portage down a little bit: at midnight CET all of my servers do a rsync && -pu world, worked smooth with all of them. anotherone at about 7am, too (don't know which mirror it took). the rsync on my workstation at 7:20 am CET broke portage. maybe this helps someone ...
[edit]: all servers are using rsync.europe.gentoo.org, my workstation still uses rsync.gentoo.org !

I'm having the same problem here and when i i tried to emerge it manually it gave me this:
bzip2: I/O or other error, bailing out. Possible reason follows.
bzip2: Broken pipe
Input file = /usr/portage/distfiles/portage-2.0.48-r2.tar.bz2, output file = (stdout)
!!! ERROR: sys-apps/portage-2.0.48-r2 failed.
!!! Function unpack, Line 294, Exitcode 2
!!! failure unpacking portage-2.0.48-r2.tar.bz2
have tried with deleting the bz2 file and redownloaded it but whitout any success.
i'll hope the devs fix it soon! _________________ Carpe Diem |

Exactly the same issues as reported above.
I have emerged portage again, still same issues.
Seems to me like someone suggested, that there are serious errors in the portage tree (!) .. |

Same here.
I made a emerge sync yesterday at 6pm (Western European Time) and the tree was OK, emerge sync today at 9am WET leads to lots of eclass errors.

Same problem here, except I will not emerge anything untill a solution will be presented on the forum, gentoo webpage or when emerge rsync will give sane results again.
I have a very stable gentoo for almost a year I will not bork by doing something in the wild. It is obvious something not our fault. |

Temp solution:
Add SYNC="rsync://rsync16.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" to your make.conf _________________ Bezoek ook eens de Nederlandstalige Gentoo IRC channel op irc.freenode.net - #gentoo-nl |
