Hello folks,

I have installed firefox3b5-pre20080322 from mozilla overlay.
Code:

[I] www-client/mozilla-firefox
     Available versions:  2.0.0.11 2.0.0.12 (~)3.0_beta4-r2[1] (~)3.0_beta5_pre20080322[1] {+xulrunner bindist debug filepicker gnome iceweasel ipv6 java linguas_%-*} linguas_-/_} linguas_af linguas_ar linguas_be linguas_bg linguas_ca linguas_cs linguas_da linguas_de linguas_el linguas_en_GB linguas_es linguas_es_AR linguas_es_ES linguas_eu linguas_fi linguas_fr linguas_fy linguas_fy_NL linguas_ga linguas_ga_IE linguas_gu linguas_gu_IN linguas_he linguas_hu linguas_it linguas_ja linguas_ka linguas_ko linguas_ku linguas_lt linguas_mk linguas_mn linguas_nb linguas_nb_NO linguas_nl linguas_nn linguas_nn_NO linguas_pa linguas_pa_IN linguas_pl linguas_pt linguas_pt_BR linguas_pt_PT linguas_ro linguas_ru linguas_sk linguas_sl linguas_sv linguas_sv_SE linguas_tr linguas_uk linguas_zh linguas_zh_CN linguas_zh_TW mozdevelop moznopango restrict-javascript xforms xinerama xprint}
     Installed versions:  3.0_beta5_pre20080322[1](18:19:07 24/03/08)(dbus startup-notification xulrunner -bindist -debug -gnome -ipv6 -java -mozdevelop -moznopango -restrict-javascript)
     Homepage:            http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox/
     Description:         Firefox Web Browser

I've sync'ed the portage tree, and then emerge -uavDt world, I see that portage still tries to install (downgrade) mozilla-firefox-2.0.12, there isn't any dep which make this happen as you can see:
Code:

[ebuild     U ] www-apache/mod_perl-2.0.3-r2 [2.0.3-r1] 3,628 kB
[ebuild     UD] www-client/mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.12 [3.0_beta5_pre20080322] USE="-bindist -debug -filepicker% -gnome -iceweasel% -ipv6 -java -mozdevelop -moznopango -restrict-javascript -xforms% -xinerama% -xprint% (-dbus%*) (-startup-notification%*) (-xulrunner%*)" LINGUAS="es%* es_ES%* -af% -ar% -be% -bg% -ca% -cs% -da% -de% -el% -en_GB% -es_AR% -eu% -fi% -fr% -fy% -fy_NL% -ga% -ga_IE% -gu% -gu_IN% -he% -hu% -it% -ja% -ka% -ko% -ku% -lt% -mk% -mn% -nb% -nb_NO% -nl% -nn% -nn_NO% -pa% -pa_IN% -pl% -pt% -pt_BR% -pt_PT% -ro% -ru% -sk% -sl% -sv% -sv_SE% -tr% -uk% -zh% -zh_CN% -zh_TW%" 36,738 kB [1=>0]
[nomerge      ] xfce-base/xfce4-4.4.2  USE="alsa cups -minimal -oss -xscreensaver"
[ebuild     U ]  xfce-base/xfprint-4.4.2-r1 [4.4.2] USE="cups -debug -doc" 0 kB

This is my /etc/portage content:

Code:
skunk ~ # grep -i firefox /etc/portage/*/*
/etc/portage/package.keywords/misc:# Firefox 3 beta
/etc/portage/package.keywords/misc:www-client/mozilla-firefox

Does anyone know why is this happening?

BTW, I also have mozilla-firefox-bin 2.0.12, maybe this matters. I don't think so though.

Something has probably masked the version you have installed, or portage doesn't "see" it any more, `emerge -pv =www-client/mozilla-firefox-3.0_beta5_pre20080322` should tell you where the problem is.

No, it doesn't
Code:

skunk ~ # emerge -pv =www-client/mozilla-firefox-3.0_beta5_pre20080322

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild   R   ] www-client/mozilla-firefox-3.0_beta5_pre20080322  USE="dbus startup-notification xulrunner -bindist -debug -gnome -ipv6 -java -mozdevelop -moznopango -restrict-javascript" 0 kB [1]

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 kB
Portage tree and overlays:
 [0] /usr/portage
 [1] /usr/portage/local/layman/mozilla

I have had the same problem. Something is pulling firefox 2 as dependency. Try checking with 'equery d mozilla-firefox'

Yep, I knew the problem was being caused by vlc (although it doesn't appear when using --tree),
I see in that post that there is a patch for vlc to compile itagainst xulrunner which solves the problem. Thanks.
