i recommend whiskey (unless u are too young of course), Tom Waits or 'Eine Winterreise' (Schubert) and good, long book. - this gets u really into the blues - and u'll feel a lot better when u are back in the end :D

I'd go for the Southern Comfort or Jack Daniels if you want to substitute smoothness for kick. Reading material, I'm reading "The Salmon Of Doubt" right now and it's excellent. It's only short though so I reccommend "The Farseer Trilogy" by Robin Hobb, followed immediatley by the "The LiveShip Traders Trilogy", followed by the first two books in "The Tawny Man Trilogy", followed by an overwhelming desire for the third and final book to come out. :-D
