what is the right way to do this? I seem to be unable to have pcmcia support started after recompiling the kernel. I have recompiled w/o pcmcia support and the emerged pcmcia-cs. right now I seem to crash when pcmcia_core is loaded.
thanks |

I have pcmcia (cardeservices option for my Dell Latitude Cpi) compiled into the kernel (not as module) and ALSO emerged the pcmcia-cs package. You still need some things from this package, such as cardmgr.
Next you must configure net support... I won't repeat the gentoo 1.1a installation instructions as they are quite adequate about how to set up laptop network support.
By the way the gentoo rc-scripts are slightly broken, so you will get some error messages about the net.eth0 not being started (or already started)
but an ifconfig command will display the eth0 device. |
