hi everybody,
i'm pretty new to gentoo-linux, so: is there any way to switch back from gnome 2.0 to gnome 1.4? btw, gnome 2 doesn't look like a final release to me ;) |

it looks crapy to me.
first i've emerged gnome 2, after that i've done a --update world - and gnome 1.4 was installed again, huh? i've emerged gnome 2 again - and my icons were gone.. so i decided to emerge the entire gnome 2 - but i cannot do this (emerge unmerge gnome-core, emerge gnome or whatever) again.... |

The same thing happened to me, except I had configuration conflicts with 1.4 after gnome-core 1.4 got randomly reemerged back into my system. So I toasted Gnome2 by manually removing all the packages it downloaded in /usr/portage/distfiles and now I'm in the process of remerging gdm - since I like gdm.
Anyway this has been too much headache.. with the whole update world thing having random 1.4 packages and such.. gonna wait a bit until this mess is cleared up.. |

every single packet by hand? well, that's a lot of work for you :). there's to be an easier way to install gnome 1.4 again... what about emerging another, old portage tree? |
