Quote: | Q: Do penguins mate for life?
A: Usually yes. However, some scientists report 'divorce rates' of approximately 10 to 20% with the occasional 'unfaithful' penguin. (Seriously!) |

Hmm.. who in their right mind would have a penguin as a pet. You would need to spend a lot of money on fish to feed them. |

I emailed them twice, a few months apart, with no reply either time, so I gues s I won't be getting that nice shiny penguin for xmas
But the reason for me bumping this topic, is I was wondering if
a) It's legal to own a penguin
b) where could I seriously get one ? _________________ "Trust the computer industry to shorten Year 2000 to Y2K. It was this kind of thinking that caused the problem in the first place."

If you're serious about a pet penguin, look into the South American penguins. I remember seeing them at the San Diego zoo, outside. They don't live in the antarctic, so they can handle a more moderate climate. But they love to swim, like all penguins. I don't think it's a good choice for a pet though, since you probably don't have a lake or ocean in your back yard. |

Penguins aren't dogs, they require special care. One shouldn't consider them as pets. |

it's good to see there's at least someone i can agree with.
neenee wrote: | often people acquire a pet, and understimate
the work involved to keep it content and well,
or even alive. i truely hope you would check
on how to take care of penguins; preferably
by talking to a caretaker. or rather, get a pet-
fish and see if you can take care of that, then
take something bigger, until you can take care
of fellow humans. then try an exotic animal
such as a tropical fish.. which can be more
work than expected as well. too many exotic
pets die because owners underestimate the
time and effort necessary to take care of them.
a good example would be a baby monkey;
someone might get one since they look cute
when young, but when they get older they
finally discover monkeys are no pets.
hm.. apologies for the rant. i just have a love
for animals and dislike it when people want an
exotic animal as a pet just to brag.. or at least,
i see it as such when someone mentions being
rich and getting an exotic animal as pet nearly
in the same sentence.
as if animals are expensive cars.
no offense meant ofcourse. |
that bit about being rich and such is there because this
quote comes from a thread about adopting a penguin
in the name of Gentoo, to which someone replied they
really wanted one when they were rich someday. |

Indeed. If you want a relatively low-maintenance pet, get a friggin' cat. |

best low maintenace pet would have to be goldfish then if you do get a penguin you have a foodsource if you run out of fish.
i was told penguins are meant to be really greasy by a friend of a friend whos kid stole one from edinburgh zoo during the penguin parade, found it was aparently its a pretty reglar occurance when it got returned. _________________ Giay tay nam | Giay nam cao cap | Giay luoi |
