ok, i have epsxe running and i'm playing with my usb joystick, and every 10 minutes my screensaver comes up because X has been idle. is there a way to make my usb joystick reset X's idle timer so i don't have to put down my joystick and move my mouse when the screensaver comes up? (i know i could just turn the screensaver off, but i'd like to get this to work if i can)

yeah, im having the same problem here, and really also would like to see a solution to this. i don't know if this helps any, but, for example, i know that mplayer has the option to stop xscreensaver from starting while a movie is playing, which is really nice since you don't have to move you mouse every X minutes to stop your screensaver from starting. i'd wish i wasn't as tired as im right now so i could maybe take a look at the mplayer source and see if i can find a solution, but if anybody is working on this or wants to, maybe that option in mplayer is a good place to start with. aright then, g'nite :wink:

i noticed that about mplayer as well. going through mplayer's source code would be pretty monotonous, but that is an option. i tried looking in X's man page for any hints, with no success. i did have an idea that may work, but i doubt it. what if there was an InputDevice entry in XF86Config for the joystick?

also, gaim has something that may be of some use. you can set gaim to go away when you've been idle for a certain amount of time. the way gaim determines how long you've been idle is either by X usage or gaim usage. fishing through that source code is also an option maybe.

bump again, ive run into this problem playing stepmania with my joystick. gets annoying when ur in the middle of a nice long 150+ combo and BAM ur xscreensaver fades in and ur sitting there screaming NOOO!!!!!!!. then u frantically type ur pass in, and by the time ur back in, u lost the combo and ur meter is in the red zone.

You could write a little game script that runs your games for you, so nothing will blank

Code:
#!/bin/sh
xset s noblank
xset s off
xset -dpms
xscreensaver-command -exit
${1}
xset dpms
xscreensaver-command -restart

Something like that...

Perhaps there is a way for X to directly use joystick input to reset the screensaver timer?

Forgive me, but I don't want to script every game emulator I have.
