On my first Gentoo installation, after I installed a number of files, emerge warned me of several files that need configuration.
I have read the emerge man page to find out, and apparently I need to run
Quote:

emerge --config <package>

However, there are about 30 files that need configuration, and I don't know which packages need it. How can I go about configuring the files/programs after installation without knowing which need config?

Please bear with me. I just started with this distro. :(

OK. Apparently, the command is etc-update. Right?

Or dispatch-conf. You can read about both in the documentation. These are important system files. Make a mistake and it will be noticed in your system behavior.

If you have just first installed, you could easily get by with just doing etc-update and following the prompts. It is usually fine to replace the old with the new, but in some cases, that will change your system behaviour. For instance, when you overwrite .bashrc, you will lose the aliases that you had previously setup. If you have any specific questions about etc-update, please feel free to ask.

No problem; please just ask if you have any other questions. :)
