If no Gentoo then I would probably use Suse 8.2 for everyday use, but I'd have run out of reasons not to get to grips with that LFS documentation or try one of the BSDs  :D

Linux? I wouldn't use Linux if there weren't Gentoo. I'd use Mac OS X, dump the PC.

Almost certainly one of the BSDs - most likely FreeBSD, but NetBSD a close second having used it successfully on an old Apple LC475.

Then again, I might have gone for Apple's OS X.

Wouldn't. I'd curl up and cry. :-D Nah, I'd probably just run slack or debain, but I won't pretend I'd like it. :x

Linux From Scratch, as I did all time before i noticed the existence of gentoo.

The idea of having my personalised system as with LFS, but an .. well.. easier way to upgrade certain packages binded me to gentoo until the very first day I got told about it.

I'd definately go into mourning for quite a while, then I hate to say I'd probably have a look at a BSD, or go back to slack

Anything but Redhat again!

But we all know that Gentoo is immortal don't we ;)

If Gentoo didn't exist, I wouldn't be using Linux...

Windows baby yeh!!! ok... only joking ;)

I'd be using FreeBSD. Its what I was using before Gentoo, Gentoo is the only distro thats tempted me to Linux.

i lived on slackware for quite some time (more then 4 years), then i decided to try LFS, but a friend suggested to try gentoo instead. ...so if there were no gentoo, i'd probably try LFS, but probably eventually end up using slackware again :]

debian? never again ...the local "gurus" tried to convience me into it, but when even more then 3 of those guys couldn't set debian (woody i think) on my PC in two weeks(!) after i failed thrice, i said "no way", and installed a whole slack install in a day with all the scripts and add-ons i used ...then i found out about gentoo ...and fell in love :D

Honestly, I think I'd be using Evil Entity, if I could get Japanese input to work. I really like that distro, 2nd only to Gentoo. Red hat is #3, but its just too...slow. Liking it less and less every day because of Gentoo.

Conectiva Linux, a Brazilian distro based on RPMs and apt-get.

 it hurts to think such thoughts, but...

If Gentoo didn't exist I would most likely go back to Debian initially but it would also give me an excuse to try out Slackware and the three BSDs (I have only used FreeBSD briefly) and then settle on whatever I liked best :D.

If I didn't have gentoo I'd probably still be stuck with Mandrake, but maybe I would have moved to slackware.

Probably FreeBSD...unless someone were to buy me a dual-processor G4 (well now G5) or something...

I was using RH, and getting fed up with bloat, when I found Gentoo. I was about 5 minutes from trying out an LFS build before someone told me about Gentoo, and I'm delighted they saved me in the nick of time!

I would probably do Linux from Scratch again. That is what I used before Gentoo or I would conisder FreeBSD. Kinda wish that BEos was still around.

ROCK Linux. Source based, and probably rather similar to Gentoo, except that they don't use Python for their scripts.
