Trying to install 1.4_rc4 on a server booting off a Promise Fasttrak100 TX2 (20268R rev. 2) with 4x80G discs in a raid 1+0 setup. I boot from the install CD with
Code: | gentoo noraid doataraid |
and then load the modules explicitly:
Code: | modprobe ataraid
modprobe pdcraid |
Then I try to fdisk /dev/ataraid/disc0/disc, but I get an error on write:
Code: | Calling ioctl() to re-read partition table.
Invalid ioctl
WARNING: Re-reading partition table failed with error 22: Invalid argument
The kernel still uses the old table.
Then new table will be used at the next reboot.

Ok, so I reboot and try to mkreiserfs on my 125G database data partition:
Code: | cdimage root # mkreiserfs /dev/ataraid/disc0/part3

The problem has occurred looks like a hardware problem.
Check your hard drive for badblocks.
bread: Cannot read the block (30519482).

Thing is, there is no hardware problem. I have installed Win2k srv on the box in question after the first time I got the error message above, and everything runs about as smooth as Wintendo is capable of. I also installed FreeBSD without any problems. So whatever is happening it's definitely Linux-related.
All suggestions appreciated...! |
