EDIT: just rename the 8.41.7 ebuild and patches to 8.42.3 and you will be all set!

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=NjE0Ng

Supposedly supports AIGLX, finally =) We'll see.

edit: I installed them by just doing `sh ati-*` and it felt really dirty. On a better note, have the best fps I've ever achieved with my crappy x200 mobility.

Bugger!
Quote:
While this driver quite promptly supports X.Org 7.3 / X server 1.4, it does not contain Linux 2.6.23 kernel support. The Linux 2.6.23 support isn't found in fglrx 8.42.3 due to issues with x86_64 support. However, we do expect that fglrx 8.43 will contain the Linux 2.6.23 kernel support.

in phoronix' forums they wrote that you just have to rename the ebuild & 2.6.23 patches then it should work

I'll have to give it a whirl then, but if 2.6.23 truly is out of the question for this driver release I don't think I'll be shedding any tears reverting to 2.6.22 for the time being. Hopefully these drivers give me more reliable 3D than the open-source radeon driver on my X800GTO. Afraid to run Compiz Fusion on the radeon driver because I hate coming back to a frozen desktop that I have to hope I can ssh into.

On a side note, am I finally going to be able to stop moaning and groaning about how I wish I had an NVidia card? Let's hope so. :P

This driver works fine on Xorg 1.4 and 2.6.23.... im currently running 8.43.2

.... the only problem is that compiz dont work cause of an libGL.so issue.... even though glxgears runs like butter and with much higher fps :)

I've installed ati-drivers-8.42.3, but I'm still getting the block on xorg-server-1.4:
Code:
[blocks B     ] x11-drivers/ati-drivers (is blocking x11-base/xorg-server-1.4-r2)

Any ideas how to unblock?

oh yeah... ati-drivers is blocked in xorg-server-1.4, just edit the xorg-server ebuild and remove the line where is says !ati-drivers :)

I just started experiencing artifacts on about a 100x100-pixel square in the bottom-right corner of my display. I would show a screen but. .it doesn't show up on a screenshot. No idea if this has anything to do with the new ATi driver or not.

picture perhaps? if it doesn't show up on the screenshot, its probably the driver and/or its interaction with your card.

That seems to be place where ATI unofficial drivers are having ATI logo. Did you remeber to update /etc/ati/signature file (etc-update or dispatch-conf)?

compiz runs here (xpress 200m), but slow scaling and scrolling makes it unusable. can't remember if i had theses issues with xgl when i tried it last year or so... and yes – no xvideo.

Scaling was slow with my Xgl too, but scrolling was fine as far as I can remember. Will try the new driver soon.

Xvideo can be enabled with
Code:
Option "TexturedVideo" "true"
in xorg.conf Device Section
seems to work fine in X1600M

Compiz-fusion doesn't work :(
compiz-start:
Code:
X Error of failed request: GLXBadContext
Major opcode of failed request: 142 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request:  16
Current serial number in output stream:  16
...
compiz(core) - Fatal: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing

Xorg's cpu usage jumps near to 100% while scrolling firefox or openoffice, or else: evidence
and as for XVideo:
Code:
(WW) fglrx(0): Textured Video is currently not supported on IGP hardware.
:(

slow scrolling was always an issue with fglrx for me, however Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" helped
other OverlayOptions:
Option "VideoOverlay" "on"
Option "OpenGLOverlay" "on"

compiz fails:
Code:
compiz --replace
compiz (core) - Fatal: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

I tried to put fglrx in whitelist, edit /etc/xdg/compiz/compiz-manager, LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 compiz --replace and both xorg-server 1.3 and 1.4
this is REALLY annoying.

I tried to put fglrx in whitelist, edit /etc/xdg/compiz/compiz-manager, LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 compiz --replace and both xorg-server 1.3 and 1.4
this is REALLY annoying.

same problem here, but i don't know how to change the whitelist...and what I have to change in fglrx in /etc/xdg/compiz/compiz-manager?

thanks

PS
I've got the 3D driver claims problem too... :(

I just started experiencing artifacts on about a 100x100-pixel square in the bottom-right corner of my display. I would show a screen but. .it doesn't show up on a screenshot. No idea if this has anything to do with the new ATi driver or not.

That might be what I read to be watermarks with recent ATI drivers.
