Hi all,

First of all, let me apologize - I know this subject was discussed in other threads, but neither one of the solutions did the trick for me...... It's getting frustrating :(

I'm using an AMD 2200+ .connected through an Intel eepro100 to a D-Link DI-614+ wireless router. I'm using the 1.4rc4 livecd. When I reach the point where I try to 'emerge sync' while still in initial installation, It starts the process, resolves the rsync server correctly, getting the file list and even start to receive the file list. After a second or two it get stuck, when eventually I get a timeout with an error at "io.c" (I'm @ work now, so I don't have the exact error message).

What I tried till now, to fix it:
1) resolv.conf - I tried to replace the 192.168.0.1 assigned by my router's DHCP, to the ISP's DNS server IP. No luck
2) resolv.conf was spelled correctly - I double-checked :)
3) I opened 873 TCP/UDP in the router's firewall.
4) My ISP doesn't block any port (I did fine when the ADSL modem was connected directly no the NIC).
5) I even tried to reduce the NICs MTU to 1492, since this is what was assigned by the router to the WAN side (PPPoE) - no luck again.
6) I used the SYNC setting in make.conf to try different rsync servers (namerica, europe, asia) - all with no luck.

Thanks,
Amos

Try the following:
Code:
RSYNC_TIMEOUT="600" emerge rsync

If that helps, place the RSYNC_TIMEOUT variable in your /etc/make.conf file.

Nope - Didn't help. I ended running "emerge-webrsync" to get a snapshot, but still I'd like to use rsync in the future.

Any Ideas ? - I suspected a firewall issue allthough I opened the ports, so I put the Gentoo box in the DMZ. Still no-go.

Normally, I don't bump these things, but I'm now having the same problem. My router is a linksys (ports openI'll give you a little more information (assuming it's the same problem)

Io timeout after 180 seconds - exiting
rsync error: timeout in data send/receive (code 30) at io.c(103)
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (1183282 bytes read so far)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(165)
>>> starting rsync with rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage...

emerge-webrsync works.
Ideas, anyone?
