Has anyone tried changing the default list of applications that appear when
you right click on a file in nautilus (and select open with...).

For example for pdf files, gv and xpdf appear, however, if you go into the Gnome File Types dialog then the list of applications includes xpdf,gv,ggv, Adobe Acrobat Reader (twice) and Adobe Acrobat 4. I would like to use Acrobat (its in my path as acroread ) and have tried all of the Acrobat entries and custom with acroread in the box. If I close the file types dialog and then reopen it check that the setting is saved then it appears to remain ok. However when I then go to a pdf file via nautilus the setting changes back to 'gv'.

I've tried this with text file types as well and had similar problems. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be extremely grateful.

Alex

Does not really answer your question but a simpile workaround would be to create a nautilus script. Please see the Nautilus File Manager Scripts page for help.

http://g-scripts.sourceforge.net/

I have created several. They are very handy and will do what you are trying todo.
