I'd like to know how the various icons, graphics, fonts etc. were created for Gentoo.
The wallpapers, forums logo, that sort of thing. Surely the author(s) of those items
are known? Fess up... tell us the secrets. :D

Thanks

I too would like to know who created them. I think they did a fabulous job and would like to beg them to do more things along those lines. :)

I would like to give a go at creating some myself. However, I don't have a clue what font they've used.

You could create the letters of gentoo using layers in the gimp, or go for a three-dimensional application and use blender then do some pp in gimp.

Both are in portage for your enjoyment :D

I have Gimp installed... I'm sure creating the letters freehand is beyond my abilities.
I've been meaning to take a look at blender. I've tried using existing images with the
'g', but have not been able to pull just the 'g' out of them very successfully. Again,
I'm sure thats related to my imaging skills.

Mr Robbins himself created them, if you click on "articles" from the main page, and go to the articles about the site redesign you can read the story.

It's funny I recommended blender, and that is indeed what he used to create the *g* in gentoo.

What do you have to do to stop being a noob?
I reckon I've submitted half a dozen ebuilds.

Do I have to post a lot? I'm sure I could write a
programme for that

Well noob status is what it says, your new to the forum is all. After you post something like 80 times you will become "Tux's lil' helper" and after that I'm not really sure how many posts equal what rating.

Message nitro and ask him, but this is a little OT.

but that doesn't mean that you couldnot spam your way to 80+ posts and become the helper.. however, how many people you have actually helped will be questionable..

kind of like this post.. its value is meager at best.. :)

The trick is to just sound like you think you know what your talking about. Be brief so you don't make
a total butt out of yourself, then someone will correct you, and you learn something at the same time.

 j/k

OK, I just emerged Blender. I think I have as much chance of figuring out how to
use it to make the Gentoo font as I do winnig the lottery :D. I actually had Blender
installed on Windows once.

Blender is not an easy thing to work with at first, but after you get the hang of it you will love it.

Ok since Daniel Robbins created the gentoo logo, why not email him and ask for the .blend file?

Is there a Gentoo art team outside of Mr. Robbins? If not, maybe there should be...

Need any people in love with Gimp and plenty of CPU time and madness (even enough to run RESYNTHESIZER over entire desktop wallpapers  )?
I'd love to do some gentoo artwork... why not put up an "artwork develop division" to upload themes, wallpapers, iconsets, whatever?
As a matter of fact, it's coffee time and nothing is more relaxing than playing around with lil' ol' gimp (even more relaxing than casting frozen orbs as a sorceress in diablo :-P )....

bash-2.05a$ gimp &

PS.: I never actually made it to *like* 3D apps... blender it is alright (blending your brains to figure out all those buttons with no name on and different screens). Now if I'm supposed to *study* it instead of *exploring* it just to get started I'd ruther further my knowledge on R or learn a _real_ language like C++...
