I have created the md5sum and sha512sum with the following commands. I hop that this is enough:
Code: | $ md5sum stage4-i686-2007.0_kdebase.tar.bz2 |
Code: | $ sha512sum stage4-i686-2007.0_kdebase.tar.bz2 |

Lol Can't you find the mail that the Gentoo forums sent you? That should provide some clues about your username. About the server; that would be great, the more the merrier I say _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Alternatives are always a good thing - that's why we run Linux and, especially, Gentoo. I think you should be able to rsync against my server OK. If you encounter problems that I can help with, just let me know. _________________ Be lucky,

I am curious how it works for you. You can find also a handy install summary on the ftp server. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered |

Well, it sounds like a good idea but......
Code: | server1 # rsync neiljw.net::
rsync: failed to connect to neiljw.net: Connection refused (111)
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(104) [receiver=2.6.9] |
But there seems to be a problem.
So I cheated for now and the files can be found at ftp://ftp.datatech-cs.com/mirror/stages/ or http://mirror.datatech-cs.com/stages/
Once you got a name for this project I'll add it to my rsync server too. |

Not a problem - I just had the daemon running on a non-standard port while I was testing it. It's back to the default now. _________________ Be lucky,

Kewl,
You are quick! About the name, what about "Unofficial Stage4 Project? Better suggestions are always welcome! _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered |

I was going to give the X11 stage4 a try tonight for a box I'm going to use with MythTV as a HTPC. Anyone have any problems so far with this stage4 that I might need to be aware of?

I have very good news! likewhoa was so kind to write a script that checks the md5 and/or shasums of binary packages. This brings a safe binary host really close! I'll post the script soon. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered |

I was just wondering if there is any chance of an x86_64 build. _________________ Be lucky,

Are you looking for a special version (desktop. kdebase or x11)? When I have some time off next week I'll start building x86_64 build. I suppose it shouldn't be a problem to build an x86_64 system inside a chroot on an x86 host. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Here's likewhoa's script that makes m5d5/sha512 verifications of binaries possible:
Updated version
Code: | emerge() {
local pkgdir="$(portageq pkgdir)/All"
local line="$(grep -n -m1 $2 ${pkgdir}/${1/#--/} 2>/dev/null|cut -d: -f1)"
for i in sha512sum md5sum; do
[ ! -e ${pkgdir}/${i} ] && echo "mission ${i} file in ${pkgdir}"
done
cd $pkgdir
case $1 in
--sha512sum)
sed -n ${line}p $pkgdir/sha512sum | sha512sum -c -
;;
--md5sum)
sed -n ${line}p $pkgdir/md5sum | md5sum -c -
;;
*)
$(which emerge) $@
;;
esac
cd $OLDPWD
} |
Code: | cd /usr/portage/packages/All
for i in md5sum sha512sum; do
${i} *.tbz2 >>${i}
done |

It's not for me I was asking. It's just that I see a lot of people on here and elsewhere struggling to install a basic working system, 32 bit and 64 bit, so it would be nice to be able to point them towards a stage4 to get them off the ground - although, I'm sure, I will find a use for them myself in the near future.

I have a number of 64 bit machines here and could do the building if it's a problem for you. I do have catalyst installed on this machine - although I've never used it so I would need your scripts and, maybe, a few pointers. _________________ Be lucky,

To be honest I just did a textbook install without using catalyst. I made a folder /mnt/gentoo and followed the handbook. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered |

I'd really like to see an x86_64 version as well and would be willing to help as well. I'm guessing that to make a x86_64 stage4, that we'd need to leave -march entirely out of the CFLAGS setting in make.conf is that correct ? We'd want to avoid any arch specific setting, and that most certainly is one.... Thoughts ? |
