|
|
I use gentoo-sources-2.6.22.r8 and gnome desktop evironment.
I also use the compiz fusion window manager.
Here is the problem
Before I login the gnome by using gdm, everything is all right, I can switch console by ctrl+alt+Fx, and I can reboot and shutdown normally.
But After I login gnome, every time when I press ctrl+alt+Fx or logout , reboot shutdown, the whole screen turns to black and the laptop just hangs.
Is there any possible that this problem is caused by compiz fusion or the kernel itself?
Please help me out, 'cause I have been suffered a long time. _________________ I like my G! |

This looks like a problem with your graphics card driver (3D acceleration)... I remember that some time in the past I had the same issues: are you using the framebuffer console or a standard VGA console? |

I get a similar issue, but instead of going blank, the screen becomes garbled (in a similar way each time) and the laptop hangs.
If I leave it alone for a while with the lid closed (hours,) and then re-open it, sometimes it will power down within a few seconds of me opening the lid.
I have an HP NC6400, with Intel 950 graphics. I'm also using the framebuffer console. _________________ Microsoft Ceo "I'm Going to F'ing Kill Google." |

I don't think it is a 100% framebuffer problem.
Because before I use framebuffer console, I had already got the black screen after I opened the "screen resolution" window from the gnome menu, even if I didnot change anything in it.
It is really wired. I'm using a toshiba laptop and a intel855GM graphic card which using i810 driver. _________________ I like my G! |

I have been having the same exact problem (same graphics card and also a Toshiba), and it appears to be a bug in the driver. There is a thread on here somewhere about the issue, and the only current solution (which worked for me) is to downgrade to xf86-video-i810-1.7.4 and mask anything higher.
Here's hoping the i810 team get this sorted out as the whole 2.*.* series so far have been plagued with this very nasty bug. |
