Hi...
i am having a trouble with detection of my cd/dvd drive. I have an intel emt64 processor on an intel 965RY motherboard running gentoo amd64. I also have a couple of Asus dvd drives. The problem is that there is no hdx or cdrom device file in /dev and /mnt/cdrom doesn't point to any device location. The hard drives (sdx) are being detected normally. Here's my lspci output:

I couldn.t see any errors in /var/log/messages file.
I have made several changes in the kernel; enabled dma and other drivers etc....but the cdrom doesn't exist :(

What kernel are you using and have you tried to see if they're detected from a LiveDVD or LiveCD?

Have you run revdep-rebuild lately? It's in gentoolkit and it's worth a shot if things don't work well.
