|
|
here's a weird one.
I've added the OAV flag to my make.conf. I've added the flag to samba under package.use:
net-fs/samba ads oav readline cups pam ldap acl swat kerberos quotas winbind
Yet, when I go to re-emerge samba, I get this:
| Code: | | [ebuild R ] net-fs/samba-3.0.26a USE="acl ads cups ipv6 ldap pam python quotas readline swat winbind -async -automount -caps -doc -examples -fam (-selinux) -syslog" LINGUAS="-ja -pl" 0 kB |
There's no OAV flag!! If I remove samba from package.keywords, then it comes back:
| Code: | | [ebuild UD] net-fs/samba-3.0.24-r3 [3.0.26a] USE="acl cups kerberos%* ldap oav%* pam python quotas readline swat winbind -async -automount -caps -doc -examples -fam (-selinux) -syslog (-ads%*) (-ipv6%*)" LINGUAS="-ja -pl" 14 kB |
I've looked at the package flags for OAV under samba in the portage tree and it's there for 3.0.26a. What's going on?
TIA,

| Check http://www.gentoo-portage.com/net-fs/samba: the oav flag appears to have disappeared after 3.0.24-r3. In your emerge output, when you omit the oav flag, it says it will Re-merge the current version, which is 3.0.26a. When you include oav, it says it will Downgrade to 3.0.24-r3. As to why it wants to downgrade in that case, I don't know. (Maybe there's an exclusion somewhere, but if there is, it doesn't look like it's a direct dependency of samba.) |

and i think the mising use flag is the rason, too!
But where ever you google around you just find howtos that uses oav.......
nobody here with an answer where the use flag is turned or howto get samba work with clamav without this flag?? |

| I came across the same problem. So, are the only 2 possibilities to either go back to the vulnerable samba 3.0.24-rX or to stay without a realtime antivirus on the samba server? Any suggestions? |

Looks like OAV was removed on purpose - I guess there's no more antivirus support for Samba
Bugzilla Bug 199769
net-fs/samba-3.0.26a-r2.ebuild "oav" flag (vscan) lost
------- Comment #3 From Tiziano Müller 2007-11-20 21:19:48 0000 [reply] -------
The oav USE-flag has been dropped on purpose together with the oav-patch.
Reasons:
a) unmaintained since March 2005
b) Compilation broken (for version 3.0.26 and surely for 3.0.27)
c) Even if it compiles, it is broken due to API changes in the Samba-Code
d) The patch itself is broken by design since it relies on API's being stable
which are not marked as such. |

Thanks Shink.
I also added the your bug information to gentoo-portage, to save others the hassle of figuring out what happened. I hope that the maintainer of the package can add some einfo information to the ebuild output explaining that this flag is no longer applicable and to change your configuration files to reflect the change.

pehaps the package maintainer can also explain why he has removed the flag on purpose.
cant believe that antivirus support should be so bad and unuseful :-/ |

Firstly, thanks for all the contributions above. Once more the Gentoo forums got me out of a hole!
Secondly, the online Gentoo docs here:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/quick-samba-howto.xml
need updating as they tell you to use OAV.
Toodles
