Maybe I'm asking why portage exists, but here goes
Most programs are in portage, but there are some small things people download every once in a while that they need to install that are not
Things from source [configure make make install]. I know you can uninstall them with make uninstall, but is there a better way, in case you delete the source?

hehe - yeah - u could write an ebuild for the prog its not so difficult - just read the ebuild howto, select an ebuild thats similar (dependencies) to the one u want to write and tweak it
or use rpm... _________________ To an engineer the glass is neither half full, nor half empty - it is just twice as big as it needs to be. |

No, there is no easy way if you deleted the source. You could always get the source again, of course, and do a 'make uninstall'.
The sample ebuild in /usr/portage/skel.ebuild should work for 'simple' ./configure && make && make install ebuilds. |
