My parents were evacuated last night from poway. Here in santa barbara the fire seems to be under control, but where I live in the valley all the soot is coming down. This really sucks. _________________ Stand With Mittens |

The fire is about 3-4 miles NE of my house, and moving SW.
BTW, I was on the train yesterday going from SD to SB and your video is nothing compared to what was going on in Oxnard and Ventura from the Malibu fire. The entire sky was literally red. You could barely see in front of you, all the cars had their fog lights on and everything. _________________ Stand With Mittens |

They were saying that we have 1000 fire engines with 4 men per truck ready to fight the fires from Santa barbra to the Mexican border. Thats approxmatly 400miles by 250 miles. Probably 100 helicopters and 50 fixed wing planes. Wind is so high the aircraft cant fly. and the distances such that its like the fires in Greece. _________________ An A-Z Index of the Linux BASH command line |

Well Fallbrook is now a mandentory evacuation, most of Poway, heck they evacuated Pomorado Hospital, Scripts Ranch , Saber Springs, voluntary evacutions of Chlua Vista (Mexican border). Over 250,000 evacuations, over 120,000 acres burnt and this just San Diego county.
EDIT oh why doesnt the rest of the world spell as I do. _________________ An A-Z Index of the Linux BASH command line |

The fires are now right next to my house. It is hard to get accurate information about it, but it doesn't look good. That Glenn Beck asshole just adds insult to injury, i just start fuming every time I think about it. The houses of military families in the Miramar airbase and Camp Pendleton are burning down and he says they hate america. What a sack of shit. _________________ Stand With Mittens |

Its hard to tell, but they are now saying 1000 homes lost and 300,000 acres burned. New fires are popping up everywhere. 400 acres of an indian reservations burned last night. No containment whatsoever. They think it will reach all the way to the ocean before it is put out. Thats about 30-40 miles long and 5-6 miles wide. _________________ Stand With Mittens |

...
is it that time of year already?
Is it just me or does it seem like this happens every year in Socal?
I'm surprised there's anything to burn down there at this point. _________________ [Owner/Operator: Dhampir Dreams]

Yeah but it is worse this time or sounds to be. This is another reason I prefer TX to Socal, besides the absolutely insane housing prices, high taxes, and lack of seasons. I wonder what insurance rates are like? |

Agreed. I personally don't like California as a state, but I do feel for the people. I've been following this. What generally starts these fires? It seems that it happens about once a year around august. I hope it blows over soon (no pun intended) and not too many people or homes are injured / damaged. _________________ My Blog |

Air quality in santa barbara has gotten pretty bad. The fire is 100% contained, but it is still smoking. I can't even see the oil rigs anymore. It will probably make for a nice sunset though, ill keep my camera ready. _________________ Stand With Mittens |

Having lived on both coasts, and in the Midwest, I'll take the Midwest over all as a region, but San Diego is clearly the best city I've ever seen. _________________ Nihilism makes me smile. |
