Well i just typed a 3 page book to get to a simple question, so I spared everyone and deleted all of that. Here we go, anyone know if openjdk might be coming to Gentoo anytime in the near future? I heard Fedora is either already using it or will be shipping it in there next release. Not sure if that is true or not. Just curious, would be great to have java working in Firefox. I have a kvm over ip that will only work via java applet. Not something that I use a lot but needless to say I would be happy to see java on amd64. |

if you just need a java plugin the blackdown plugin still works, but is a little buggy and so is masked (personally though works fine for me 99.9% of the time)
to give it a go just create the file /etc/portage/profile/package.use.mask, make sure it contains the line
Code: | dev-java/blackdown-jdk -nsplugin |
then emerge blackdown-jdk (with the nsplugin use flag in make.conf or /etc/portage/package.use as you prefer)
I'd like to see openjdk in portage to look at it but I believe the above is easiest/quickest solution to any immediate issues. |

Thanks for the responses. I was using blackdown till it was hard masked. I am fine with buggy but I was under the impression there was some security concerns as well. I think I'll try that overlay in the mean time. Thanks again for the responses. |
