I got a macbook pro with vmware fusion and i installed a gentoo server in a virtual machine, basic gentoo installation went fine. Then I emerged "open-vm-tools" from portage and as far as i can tell everything worked out of the box... except timesyncing between mac os and the gentoo guest os.

-->My gentoo vm clock is slower than the "nomal" mac os clock - several seconds per minute.

open-vm-tools documentation is kind of sparse, but according to their website time sync *should* work, so i ask myself, what am I doing wrong? The only config option available is to enable/disable drag'n'drop functionality, but none of it worked...

are these tools incompatible with vmware fusion? any other ideas?

I think I solved this by myself...

open the file
<your vm path>/Virtual Machines.localized/<vm name>.vmwarevm/<vm name>.vmx

set the option
tools.syncTime = "TRUE"

After setting this, my clock is always in sync now...
