Umm... xmms just came up in a revdep-rebuild, only... The package is gone!

There is no xmms anywhere in the portage tree (at least, that I can find -- ie, by
Code:
find /usr/portage/ -iname '*xmms*'
or
Code:
esearch -Sc xmms
).

Yet:
Code:
equery belongs $(which xmms)
[ Searching for file(s) /usr/bin/xmms in *... ]
media-sound/xmms-1.2.10-r15 (/usr/bin/xmms)

Where the heck did it go? Why can't I find any trace of it?

TIA!

Damn!

As long as there were no upgrades or rebuilds, I didn't notice the package being gone...

Is there a reason why it was removed? Is xmms no longer maintained or something?

Exactly. More or less...

It wasn't just xmms. It is the whole gtk1 lot. No one is willing to deal with that anymore. Bugs were just sitting on top of older bugs, and no one cares about them. Not that audacious is much more stable, and it leaks memory like mad if you use any plugin (if you don't, then the only usefull thing you can do with audacious is to look its niceness).

However, you should check my web site (look my signature). There you will find an overlay for xmms, and most of the tarballs containing plugins, themes and stuff.

http://jesgue.homelinux.org/downloads.php

If you have any problem or something, feel free to contact me. I am still using this little monster sometimes, though it is like a very annoying pet. :P I think the overlay was also holding a modified xosd ebuild (for it to work ok with xmms) and the gtk1 (gdkpixbuf, etc) needed for xmms. It is long since I packaged it and I don't remember it right now).

If you accept suggerences and don't mind using a text based program, I would say "emerge moc". I have some scripts for it and I also have implemented an bashish hack for xosd for it. I like it a lot.

PS. It's been almost one year since its removal from portage.
