Help with creation, editing, or playback of sounds, images, or video. Amarok, audacious, mplayer, grip, cdparanoia and anything else that makes a sound or plays a video.

alsamixer settings not being saved? [solved]

So, a minor annoyance, but after I tweak the volume a bit with alsamixer, i type in sudo /etc/init.d/alsasound save, and it tells me that it saves the alsamixer sound levels, but no matter what, whenever i boot back up, alsamixer has all channels muted again.

EDIT (i really should actually ask a question): So, how do I get it so that the sound levels are *actually* saved?

Make sure the "RESTORE_ON_START" and "SAVE_ON_STOP" options in /etc/conf.d/alsasound are set to what you want, and make sure /etc/init.d/alsasound is in your default runlevel.

I believe `alsactl store` (as root) is the proper way to set the sound level which you want to store, although `/etc/init.d/alsasound save` is probably a wrapper around this anyway.

Let's not get confused about the two places that the asound.state file is stored in Linux distros.

Odd, I've always used `alsactl store` to save the volume, which the init script restores upon boot.
