what does

Code:
locate /ls |grep bin
say? (this needs slocate)

And what does it do when you use /bin/ls ?

If the latter works, your path may be screwed up.

the reason for the missing commands most probably comes from an update of coreutils:
[solved] no coreutils in /usr/bin

as mentioned in that thread, rebooting was not necessary:
Code:
# hash -r

would have solved the issue

Moved from Installing Gentoo to Duplicate Threads, as noted by davjel the cause and a solution have already been presented in topic "[solved] no coreutils in /usr/bin".
