I got a 200mhz box from a friend of mine I'm installing gentoo on. But even with distcc it's barly pusing 0.2 in load on my main computer (2.2ghz athlon). Any suggestions on makeopts?
and perhaps I should set makeopts to 2-3 and set distcc-config --set-hosts to use only my main computer for compiling? |

distcc has to be one of the greatest things for gentoo. I currrently distribute my compiled across 6 - 8 boxes.
I would recommend for you:
set MAKEOPTS to "-j3" (if you're just using one other box for distcc)
set DISTCC_HOSTS to "otherbox localhost" (distcc uses the order as a preference)
- both of these should be put in /etc/make.conf

some ebuilds explicitly turn off distcc due to there occasionally being problems with certain packages building with distcc.
Hope this helps. |
