My does not re-run dhcpd after the ethernet cable is plugged/unplugged, or after the router is rebooted.
I presume I haven't got it configured or need to emerge a package, so could someone point me in the right direction?

Is it really necessary?
I mean, will the ip address assigned before the cable is unplugged not still be valid?
If you're always connecting to the same router and it always assigns the same ip address, maybe a static config would be preferable to dhcp? _________________ "You have to invite me in" |

DHCPD still needs to be run on cable disconnect, even with a static address, as the box needs to tell the router that it is actually using that IP address.
The router is one intended for home usage, and does not support static dhcp leases, or persist leases after being power cycled.
So yes, it is necessary. |

Look into sys-apps/ifplugd. Normally it's used to bring up a wireless LAN interface with the wired Ethernet cable is unplugged, and vice versa, but it runs a script when the cable is unplugged and another when replugged and you could use those scripts to restart the eth0 interface.
