Hya, I've runned an emerge sync and got new updates for my system, while trying to update I've got this error:
Code: | gcc -O2 -mcpu=i686 -pipe -I../lib -Wall -Wmissing-prototypes -Wstrict-prototypes -DNCH=1 -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -DSBINDIR=\"/sbin\" -DUSRSBINDIR=\"/usr/sbin\" -DLOGDIR=\"/var/log\" -DVARPATH=\"/var\" -DLOCALEDIR=\"/usr/share/locale\" -O2 -mcpu=i686 -pipe pivot_root.c -o pivot_root
/var/tmp/portage/util-linux-2.11y/temp/ccLPAYAw.o(.text+0x19): In function `pivot_root':

make[1]: *** [pivot_root] Error 1

make: *** [all] Error 1
!!! ERROR: sys-apps/util-linux-2.11y failed.

Any advice?

Running emerge -u world:
Code: |
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) util-linux-2.11z.tar.bz2
>>> Unpacking source...
>>> Unpacking util-linux-2.11z.tar.bz2 to /var/tmp/portage/util-linux-2.11z-r4/work
* Applying util-linux-2.11z-parallel-make.patch... [ ok ]
* Applying no-symlink-resolve.patch... [ ok ]
* Applying util-linux-2.11z-script.patch... [ ok ]
!!! ERROR: sys-apps/util-linux-2.11z-r4 failed.
!!! Function src_unpack, Line 59, Exitcode 1
!!! MCONFIG Pam
|
Running USE="pam" emerge -u world, it compiles fine, and merges correctly, with no problems.
I dont know why I need to have pam. |

I know it's inappropriate to follow-up a thread with a useless "ME TOO", but I am getting the exact error that the original poster is getting, not the MCONFIG error which USE="pam" fixes. At the moment, my system is in a tweener state. Help? _________________ --

I'm attempting a workaround by emerging /usr/portage/sys-apps/util-linux/util-linux-2.11z-r4.ebuild instead of 2.11y.
After emerging 2.11z-r4, update -p sytem gives me a [ UD]: util-linux-2.11y; I'm guessing this means 2.11z-r4 is masked and therefore evil for some reason. I'll continue anyway and see what breaks. Currently I'm emerging sys-kernel/ppc-sources. |

I'm getting the same error, and have been trying to find a bugilla entry that matches this, has anyone else had better luck searching? otherwise I'll submit one tomorrow. |
