Just started learning Gentoo enjoying it very much, more rewarding than Bill Gates.
But I have a problem with emerging, tried to emerge Kaffeine but three hours later it was still emerging, thinking something was wrong I terminated it.After reading the Gentoo handbook under Portage I read about the use of flags, could anyone confirm if this is my problem.I was loading the KDE base KDE libs and everything under the sun,I use Gnome by the way.
What will happen to the three hours of emerging that I have already done, very very grateful for any help.

kdelibs takes a few hours on my Athlon64 2.2GHz so it depends on your computers cpu how long it will take and even though you run a gnome desktop Kaffine depends on kde libs to work so you are just going to have to bite the bullet and wait if you wish to use it :P

Some USE-flags do help cut compile times down and you can always study this by doing:

Code:
emerge -va kaffine

that will show you what is being installed.

Hope that helps.

Kaffeine doesn't have any direct dependencies on KDE, afaik. You can check the dependency tree by using
Code:
emerge -pvt kaffeine
.

It does seem to depend on kde-base/kdelibs, which is probably the largest of the KDE packages.

Any packages that finished installing you won't have to reinstall, however the package that was being compiled when you terminated it will have to start from the beginning again.
