I just did an emerge -uD world and my system no longer enters X. If I run dmesg after startx I get informed that everything gui oriented segfaults. At first I figured it was either hardware or driver oriented, so I tried bumping down the drivers and I checked all my hardware. Here's the exact output from me running startx (with startkde in .xinitrc):

Code:

At which point I either control c it from the console or alt control backspace it. Now for the more interesting portion (at least to me):

Normally I'd like to hack this out myself, but I'm going away this weekend and don't wanna leave this box over so my roommies can't use it. :( Help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have any concrete tips, but the first thing you should try is the Same Old Drill[tm]: ;-)
Code:

etc-update
revdep-rebuild

I probably should've pointed out that, out of instinct, I ran revdep-rebuild, and when I was done emerging I updated etc. But thanks for the reminder, I've had that fix way too many problems for me to start forgetting it now.

If no one has any ideas soon, I'm going to go for an emerge -e world...I don't wanna do it, but I think that might have some positive effect. :?
