Hello,
I recently upgraded my mobo from an ASUS A7A133 to a nforce2-based NF7-S.
I understand there are some problems with setting up network initially (LiveCD-wise) with the onboard nforce2 ethernet card.
Since I have an internal network here at home, I used the nforce2 jack to connect to my other pc, and a D-Link DFE-550TX (sundance module) to connect to my cable modem. The given setup works fine in Windows XP.
My problem is starting network through the sundance card with the LiveCD. In my old mobo all I had to do was "dhcpcd eth0" and it worked. (just for the record, I'm using the same ISP). In my new NF7-S, it simply won't go ("dhcpcd eth1", "dhcpcd eth0", zippo). I know that the sundance module is loaded with "lsmod", so I'm guessing there must be some driver conflict. I do get two ethernet interfaces that I can statically configure, is it possible that the "generic" nforce driver is doing more harm than good?
Thank you in advance.
PS: Using LiveCD 1.4rc2

I still can't get the onboard NIC to get an IP with DHCP. I'm currently using a Netgear FA310TX (tulip module). The Netgear will only work when I disable acpi. I think there's a noacpi option at the boot prompt, maybe try that. |

Thanks for the quick reply, but it didn't work.
I tried the disable acpi option (F2 in the LiveCD, I don't recall the exact name of the option), but no go.
Should I try another NIC maybe? _________________ Hello. |

After booting from the CD, try issuing the following command:
# modprobe nvnet
This seems to work for me during installation on my nf7-s v2. The problem I'm having now is my newly compiled kernel can't seem to find this (or any module) via modprobe. Something about /lib/modules/2.4.20_gentoo-1.4rc4/net or something doesn't exist. _________________ --

Thanks for the support paul and ice.
Here's how I got my connection working:
I booted the LiveCD and used the parameters no-acpi and nonet.
I couldn't get the connection to work on my NIC no matter what, but surprise surprise it did work on the onboard nforce2 NIC after doing modprobe nvnet. I guess I should've tried that on the first place .
I still have to see about the kernel (just started building from stage1), but for now it's all good. =) _________________ Hello. |

It's been a while, but everything worked fine (and is working). I don't even need/have an additional NIC anymore (built myself a mini-server/router), but it was working a couple weeks ago. Nforce-net seems to be a no-go in development-sources, but it works fine in the stable tree. _________________ Hello. |

Do you remember which module was used for the on-board eth card?
I got the NF7 and I don't know which one to use... |

nvnet - you have to install the nvidia drivers for it. 'emerge nforce-net'
Unforutunately according to nvidia's site it 'requires a 2.4 kernel' so no 2.5 or 2.6, I guess |
