Hi, i have gentoo 2007.0 installed on vmware workstation 6, and all of the vmware-tools modules are working fine (using patches found on internet , whynots) but the vmhgfs module. The module loads but still cannot access host OS (windows vista home premium..) 's shared folder.
Should I use vmware-tools 3 from portage? or has anyone successfully installed vmhgfs from vmwaretools 6 ? thanks
i am using kernel 2.6.22 gentoo r2
btw, is it possible to use vesatng in vmware workstation 6 ? since my terminal is running at a very low resolution. I have selected vesatng while compiling the linux kernel, but passing video=vesa argument alone with the desired resolution doesn't seem to work.
thx _________________ HP nc8000 |

I know these probably aren't the answers your looking for but still...
Although I haven't used 6.0, I've been using Workstation since version 3. I've found hgfs to be a little flaky. It's fine to copy a file now and then, but if you really want to share files with locking etc, you're better of connecting to the host via cifs or samba.
As to vesatng on your guest, I wouldn't bother. If you're using X in your guest, that's great, but I wouldn't bother setting up a framebuffer console for text mode when you can just use Putty to telnet or ssh into the guest. It will be much faster (the text mode is far slower than X, it's not accelerated even with VMWare tools), and integrate much better with other apps on your host... you can cut and paste, for example. |
