Hi...

My gentoo box and laptop, both sync portage on the same day, twice weekly.

When I update my world file, on the laptop, portage emerges the latest gentoo-sources (2.6.22-r5).

On my gentoo box, however, portage is content with (2.6.22-r2), and it doesn't try to update gentoo-sources. :?

What is the reason for the difference in behavior between these 2 machines? What prompts portage to upgrade gentoo-sources?

Thanks!

Without much more info, here are a few possibilities:

Are they different architectures? (possibly ppc somewhere?)
Do you have a custom overlay on the one sticking to 2.6.22-r2?

Does this reveal anything?

Thanks!

Both ~x86 machines...

"custom overlay on the one sticking to 2.6.22-r2"... How would I be able to tell?

Thanks!

Unless you have mixtured with setting up a custom overlay, you don't have one.

Do you have gentoo-sources in your world file on both machines? Otherwise, try emerging it on the one that wants to be -r2.

Aha! The problem IS my world file!

I attempted cleaning my world file last week:
Code:

dep -w

That, apparantly wiped out my sys-kernel/gentoo-sources, and who knows what else!

Fortunately, I had a backup of the world file, from which I was able to restore it. The problem now seems resolved. :D

Thanks!
