|
|
Hello all,
While trying to emerge the latest version of Open Office, I filled up /var/tmp/portage and the emerge failed. As I have 2.5Gb free on my / partition, I wasn't expecting this. I then tried creating a symbolic link over to my /usr partition which has 10gm free, but the link got deleted when I ran emerge and the same problem occurred. I also tried to make a hard link, but that failed as I was trying to make it to another partition.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards. _________________ --

Please see /etc/make.conf
Specifically, the
# Portage Directories
# ===================
section, and more specifically, the subsection
# PORTAGE_TMPDIR is the location portage will use for compilations and
# temporary storage of data. This can get VERY large depending upon
# the application being installed.
#PORTAGE_TMPDIR=/var/tmp
You can use the PORTAGE_TMPDIR to point to where you want the compilation to take place

I ran into the same problem and was wondering: 1) Is there anyway to unmerge openoffice so I can get my hard disk free? Right now because it never finished the build process it doesn't recognize the package to unmerge. 2) Are there other files I can delete to make more room for building? In particular I was wondering if the files in /var/tmp/portage are the source files and if they can safely be removed or are they simply a list of what has been emerged? With the little 2 gig harddrive I'm working with, I don't have room to waste, but I nned a word processore that can handle Word files.
Thanks |

Check /var/tmp/portage and /usr/portage/distfiles for files to delete. Not sure, but I think /usr/portage/distfiles is all the tarballs for packages you emerged, so they don't need to redownload if you reemerge, and /var/tmp/portage is the build directory for emerges. |

Thank you so much, I had forgotten that parameter, but I won't ever again!
