ES1988-A550 Sound doesn't work with ALSA or Kernel

Hi all,

I have a A550 FIC laptop. According to less /proc/pci I have a ES1988 Allegro-1 (rev18). This uses the mastro3 driver as far as I know. I have compiled the experimental driver into my kernel and although there is no no complaint from gnome or netmeeting on startup I get no sound!

I also tried using the alsa drivers as well. I made sure the kernel was set to compile sound support as a module. I aslo made sure no drivers where compiled. I then emerged alsa-driver with the ALSA_CARDS set to maestro3. Unuting everything etc. Still I get no sound. I did have /etc/init.d/alsasound running.

It appears that the sound is configured correctly as there are no error messages. E.G saying aplay pop.wav prints out messages saying it is playing at 800 HZ.

I have checked that the sound volume has not been turned down. What else can I try.
